Day 11: Fault vs. Responsibility (Sacramento to Berkley)

ree

I was having such a great day.

Woke up in the sunny Bay Area after sleeping in. Ran three miles to a canyon. Ate clean. Even had time to relax before the show.

“I’m looking for a problem but can’t find one,” I joked to my bandmate

Tour will humble you.

The gear issues that haunted me all week struck again. I’d been bragging about being the only one on this tour using analog amps. Everyone else went digital; lightweight, convenient, sterile. Not me. I carry my forty-pound beast on my back with pride.

Turns out, a lingering problem I've been having on stage is from the input jack on my vintage amp. Damaged when my bass player’s size 15 sneakers bent my cable while it was still plugged in.

Now the only amp on the tour with a problem is mine. Joke's on me.

You don't really have to go out looking for problems, they come easily. I put on a brave face, finished the set on a borrowed amp, and kept a light attitude the rest of the night. There's no sense in dragging anyone else down with me.

Recently id pointed out to a co-worker how something that went wrong at work was not his fault, but was his responsibility to fix. Now I have to take my own advice.

It's a 6 hour drive today, I'll be looking for repair shops along the way.
