My van’s transmission failed.
Devastated isn't strong enough. This is my touring vehicle and now I have to pay for a rental twice in one month.
A few years ago I'd tried to run a van rental business for bands and stopped after two years. That experience taught me I never wanted to deal with mechanics and roadside emergencies often. I'd vowed: no more rentals.
But I did it anyway.
Once I accepted my fate this time around, my question shifted from how did this happen to why.
Because I’d gone half-in on my commitment.
I remember an interview where someone asked one of Prince’s associates “after he changed his name to ‘The Artist Formerly Known as Prince’ did anyone still call him Prince?”
The man laughed and shook his head.
“He was very serious about his decisions."
