We asking a lot of or bodies.
We've been getting 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night. We drive most of the day, perform, then we drive some more to steal a few miles from tomorrow.
Touring is demanding like that. Yesterday's miles no longer matter today. While my body takes a hit, my minds has to sharpen. It's unforgiving.
I listened to a podcast on I-84 today. It was about resilience. I'm keeping it close to my chest.
They said you gotta believe you can do hard things, and stack evidence for it.
They said you gotta learn to reframe challenges as opportunities.
We are the only band without help on this tour. We drive, cook, clean, carry in, and carry out, and manage operations on our own. It's a lot of work. I have three weeks of this to go.
Luckily I see resilience all around me. I'm on tour with a living legend in this scene. Someone almost twice my age. Tonight I saw him crowd surf while playing his guitar. I just ran into him at a gas station. It's one in the morning and he's up and running. Ready to drive twice as much as we will tonight.
It's all about the story you tell yourself. I haven't been on a long tour like this since covid. My mind had made up all these stories about how I wouldn't be able to do it anymore. My mind is a liar. My body knows the truth.
It's nine am and we are heading to Portland. I get to drive five more hours to do what I love.
